There’s a new studio in the city called Treehouse studio. Treehouse studio operated by Darshan Shah.
When i asked about how the studio came in play.
He told me. ” It’s been 9 years since i decided i want to go into this industry. After 12th i had three options. It was either music, economics or design field. But my parents were supportive of me pursuing this. It was my mon who told me about this A.R Rehman institute, which was new at that time. And then one thing led to another and i was there.”
Why the name Treehouse studio?
“As a child i always wanted a treehouse, but in Ahmedabad we don’t have the space and that kind of trees. When i decided to build a studio, i thought of a theme. Like, what can I do? i have a terrace i have a room, i can kind of make the treehouse vibe going and that’s how it came into existence. so, all the plants, wooden panels you see here is all the dream as a kid.”
Darshan is more into film scoring and all. He did his course on piano performance from A.R. Rehman institute. Then he went to Malaysia for his bachelors in professional music. He started listening and analysing some scores by Hans Zimmer and john Williams.
He was able to land a gig in first month at Malaysia for a football cup which was happening. He still doesn’t know how was he able to do it.
As a music producer how do you think an artist should work on their music?
“So, as an artist the first thing everyone should know and the thing i learned in Malaysia was. The skill is always needed. But the way you communicate, the way you present yourself to your fans at the gig is much important. Even when you go to the studio, an artist can have one of the best songs, but if you can’t communicate your ideas, if you don’t know what to get out of the other person you’re working with then…. yea. So, Communication is the key.”
His biggest challenge as a music producer working with artists is to find their own voice. And you can’t teach that. No band, no artist can teach you that.
He is always big on FINDING YOUR OWN VOICE.
He came back to Ahmedabad on 2018. Now he is thinking about to establish himself as a musician/Music producer. He had no plan on making a studio because he wanted to go back to L.A.
His studio filled with all sorts of different instruments from the places he has traveled. It’s one of his ways to stay fresh and keep his interest in.
What do you think about Ahmedabad artists?
It’s been great meeting people at SSS, Nicolette and you and everyone else. I haven’t seen so much of, artists helping other artists in any other city i’ve been to. So, this community we are sharing, honing and building together is great. The talent and artist are improving and have much more potential to make big in this industry. They need a source/Platform and if all goes well, we can build something bigger over here.
ARTISTS NOW DEFINITELY, HAVE TO BE ON SOCIAL MEDIA. THEY HAVE TO PROMOTE THEIR STUFF. YOU HAVE TO BE YOUR OWN JUDGE, SPOKESPERSON, MANAGER AND EVERYTHING.
THINK YOUR CRAFT AS A BUSINESS.
