This was long time coming. When Sunday Secret Sessions Hosted a series of small shows through out the week before the actual show on world music day.
Nicolette the founder of SSS hinted something about Woodstock. I instantly knew about it.
It was happening.
If you don’t know what is Woodstock festival. I have copied few paragraphs from Wikipedia
The Woodstock Music & Art Fair—informally, the Woodstock Festival or simply Woodstock—was a music festival in the United States in 1969 which attracted an audience of more than 400,000. Scheduled for August 15–17 on a dairy farm in the Catskill Mountains of southern New York State, northwest of New York City, it ran over to Monday, August 18.
Billed as “An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music”, it was held at Max Yasgur‘s 600-acre (240 ha; 0.94 sq mi) dairy farm near the hamlet of White Lake in the town of Bethel. Located in Sullivan County, Bethel is 43 miles (70 km) southwest of the town of Woodstock in adjoining Ulster County.
During the sometimes rainy weekend, 32 acts performed outdoors. It is widely regarded as a pivotal moment in popular music history, as well as the definitive nexus for the larger counterculture generationRolling Stone listed it as one of the 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll.
The event was captured in the Academy Award-winning 1970 documentary movie Woodstock, an accompanying soundtrack album, and Joni Mitchell‘s song “Woodstock“, which commemorated the event and became a major hit for both Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Matthews Southern Comfort. Joni Mitchell said, “Woodstock was a spark of beauty” where half-a-million kids “saw that they were part of a greater organism” In 2017, the festival site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Now that you know what it is. Let’s dive into the wonderful night of 15th August. As Indians we celebrated Independence Day with the Spirit of Woodstock.
The vibe was incredible. Everyone over there was in Hippie outfit. What a sight.
There were lovely handmade accessories by Hazel Gore (SSS founder’s mother). Everything related to the era of 1969.
Mahila Manch was a great deal of help. To know more about MM here is the article I wrote about the show “Maa Bahin”

The host for the night was Shefali Pandey from Mahila manch. Job well done. She’s a stand-up comedian. So, yeah. It was fun.

Shefali having a word with Hazel Gore about her teenage years

In every concert SSS organise they have one young blood section where they brought in new artist. This time they got Legally Blues.
I have seen Legally Blues perform couple of times. They have won almost every competition they’ve been.
Legally Blues Played 3 songs and started off the show. At that moment I knew this was gonna be kick-ass.
Then came in Radio Shack. Radio shack says “RadioShack is about having all the genres of music (radio) under one roof (shack) to create an awareness identifying oneness and peace…” (Facebook page) They were killer.
Then. The best act of the night came. If you guys know about SSS you For sure know about nana. Nana, is Nicolette’s Grand mum.
She alongside with Hazel Gore and Nicolette. They performed song by Janis Joplin – Me & my Bobby McGee.
Hazel sang, Nicolette on guitar and nana on harmonica. Imagine being 86 year old and able to pull off playing harmonica. She’s the best. I wish nana would have been my date for the night 🙂

It was an absolute delight to see her play. GO NANA!

Next two bands were the best of the best.
“Zero gravity”. With Mark Haydon on guitars, Siddhanth on Bass, Pritul on drums and Nicolette on Vocals.
They played some of my favourites. One being Purple Haze. #excusemewhileikissthesky
Crazy vibe. Everyone lost in the music. Appreciating each other and experiencing a part of Woodstock in Ahmedabad.
Then came in “The Band Of Buddhas” Ashy Dave, Himanshu Desai AKA The hermit guitarist, Siddanth and Meet.
Ashy and Himanshu being the veterans in music scene. Those guys would have torn the roof apart. Luckily I was at the Baseline cafe which is an open cafe. Great vibe. The energy was unfathomable. All you could do is just go with it and feed them more energy.
I am super happy and proud to be a part of something which is working for other artists in Ahmedabad. Because I believe, doing something for yourself only counts when you do good for others.
Sunday Secret Sessions thank you. You are kind and you understand what needs to be done.
Love always. And let’s keep the ball rolling.
